Manned Spaceflight

We were told we were supposed to be going back to the Moon. We were told we were meant to be landing on Mars. What happened? Is our advancement as a species that unimportant? It saddens me that commercial spaceflight is overtaking institutions with such a great host of shared brainpower.

I realise that we have important things to spend tax money on back on Earth. I absolutely support the idea that we should be trying to create a stable, educated and affluent society. However I also see the need to explore, to migrate and to conquer that the human race has displayed from it's inception. We need a reason to be, a great project to proudly build. It is with immense frustration that I write this blog. We absolutely have the technology to conquer space, it isn't science fiction.

I would gladly see my tax money going on manned spaceflight. I wouldn't even mind paying a little extra that would go exclusively towards the cause. It all adds up. 300 million people paying a few dollars extra every year? I'd pay it proudly. What do you think? I'd like to gauge the general consensus on this issue.

  1. I too would like to see idea come to fruition, but alas the powers at be would rather spend it all on weapons so they can continue their infinite Mexican stand-off with the other nations of the world.

  2. What I really want is a space elevator. We'd be ballin' then.

  3. I'd definitely support a tax. Not having manned spaceflight makes me sad.

  4. Completely agree. Wonder what the developments will be now that the private sector has taken an interest in this.

  5. We are the first generation that could possibly live somewhere that isn't Earth. If we don't grasp this then I am disappointed in us all.

  7. People get all pissed off about how much NASA spends, but it's SO FUCKING SMALL compared to any other government agency. Sadly I think private industry with government backing is the only way we'll get anywhere.

I also get upset when people complain after a 300 million dollar satellite or space probe malfunctions. THAT'S LIKE TWO FIGHTER JETS FFFFFFFFFFFFF. It's less than a dollar per taxpayer.

Personally I doubt we'll ever get beyond the moon. Mars is just too hard. I'd be happy with a moon colony and space stations in the la grange points. YOU MAY CALL ME A DREAMER, BUT I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE. Too passionate about this I know

  8. Agree with the above comment^^^

Mars is just too hard to get to. Not to mention how long it would take. I got faith, but chances are it wont be any time soon. ):

  10. we're in too much debt already.
if all these niggers stop popping out babies and demanding welfare, we could totally afford a colony on the moon.
